Daniel Smith Masking Fluid 30ml

Masking Fluid acts as a watercolor resist – by applying it to your surface, you can preserve desired areas of white space by blocking paint washes with an impervious barrier that leaves crisp, clean edges. Masking Fluid dries to an unobtrusive, transparent caramel color so you can see it while working on your painting. When you’re ready, just wipe it away with a rubber cement pick-up. Once it’s gone, you can keep the protected areas white or paint with fresh watercolor for maximum luminosity and color clarity.

DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid is easy to use with a squeezable bottle and 5 different fine-point applicator tips.

Tips for use:

• No need to shake – our latex mixture does not easily separate. Shaking creates air bubbles inside the applicator tip which transfer to your fine lines. You can gently roll the bottle once or twice across your table instead.
• To start the flow, gently squeeze the bottle to release a bead of fluid.
• Move the applicator bottle across the paper and allow the capillary action to draw out the fluid as you outline and fill in the desired space. Gently squeeze the bottle only occasionally if needed.
• You can opt to apply the fluid with an old or inexpensive paint brush.
• Keep the bottle upside down in a small glass in between applications to aid the flow and further prevent bubbles inside the applicator tip. Replace the snap-top lid on the bottle when finished with your work.
• Thoroughly rinse the applicator tip (or brush) immediately after use to prevent dried fluid from clumping or clogging. Save your first empty bottle and fill it with water to flush through the tips in the future.
• Dried fluid can usually be peeled away from inside applicator tips or removed by inserting a fine needle.
• Allow Masking Fluid to dry thoroughly on your surface before painting over it.
• Allow surrounding paint to dry thoroughly before removing Masking Fluid from your surface with a rubber cement pick-up. If you rub it away with your fingers, you may leave behind oil from your skin which could interfere with the next application of paint.
